Peasants and a touch of class

Jyotee, Manish and Pallavi inspire on Day 2 of the Lakme Fashion Week.
Peasants and a touch of class
On a sunny Day 2 of the Gitanjali-sponsored Lakme Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2009, the show was kickstarted by designer Jyotee Khiatan.
Flaunting a peasant look, on the ramp were models who sported turbans, kowls, bandanas with sequins to add to the glamour. Jyotee brought in a twist with kowls on dhotis and churidaars.
There were linen pants with gathers on the ankles, cutouts on dresses which gave a peek-a-boo effect.

We could also spot some lovely quilted jackets, handloom and georgette fabrics.
Then came a classic and elegant look by designer Manish Gupta. For a young designer who is showcasing for the second time, his detailing and finish were remarkably noticeable. Using chiffon, georgettes, Manish chose to move from tones of creme to yellow, merging into blacks. The bodice of the dresses had some textured work and neat pintucks. Using matka silk, the flowy feel was flattering. The irregular hemlines were pretty, too.
This show was concluded by designer Pallavi Jaipur, who was immensely inspired by the deserts of Rajasthan in theme, idea and clothes. On the ramp were models in clothes which had mirror work, ornate stonework and instead of the regular oranges and maroons, the use of pastels was indeed soothing.
Flapper tops, jootis, anklets and ghagras with an urban cut were impressive. The showstoppers including Aalia (Pooja Bedis daughter), Shazahn Padamsee (Sharon Prabhakars daughter) and actress Rituparno Sengupta then sashayed down the ramp. On the front row were the mommies (obviously) of the showstoppers and also Kabir Bedi who cheered on.
